Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport played between two individuals (singles) or two pairs of players (doubles) on a rectangular court, divided by a net. Players use a stringed racket to hit a felt-covered rubber ball over the net and into the opponent’s designated court area. The objective is to score points by making the ball land in the opponent’s court such that they cannot legally return it.

The game is played in several formats, including best of three or five sets, with each set containing games that are scored based on points. The scoring system includes distinctive terms such as “love” (zero), “15,” “30,” “40,” and “game.”

Tennis can be played on various surfaces, including grass, clay, and hard courts, each affecting ball speed and play style. It is governed by international organizations, with major tournaments such as the Grand Slam events (Wimbledon, US Open, French Open, and Australian Open). Tennis is known for its strategic play, athletic skill, and sportsmanship, with a rich history dating back to the 12th century.
