Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by throwing a ball through the opposing team’s hoop or basket. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end, elevated 10 feet above the floor. Players advance the ball by dribbling (bouncing it on the floor while walking or running) or passing it to teammates.

Points are scored in several ways: a field goal, worth two points if made from inside the three-point line, or three points if made from beyond the arc. Additionally, free throws, awarded after certain fouls, are worth one point each.

Basketball involves various skills, including shooting, dribbling, passing, and defensive maneuvers. The game emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and skillful play. It is governed by a set of rules laid out by organizations such as the National Basketball Association (NBA) and FIBA (International Basketball Federation). Basketball is popular worldwide and is played professionally, recreationally, and at various levels from youth leagues to international competitions.
